Working online or face to face are equally effective.
Online
This can often be easier as clients sometimes prefer the comfort, ease and flexibility of having sessions from home, with no commute time.
I will send you a Microsoft Teams link before each session; you just need a quiet and confidential space where you can be present.
Face to face
Some clients prefer working in person as they feel that there are fewer distractions.
Sessions are held at The Harlow in Harrogate, in a soundproof room.
I am qualified to offer both online and face to face sessions. I enjoy both ways of working and feel that equally strong connections can be formed through both methods.

I will give you a call at our mutually agreed time and we will discuss your needs in brief such as what has brought you to counselling and what you would like to gain from counselling, as well as a little bit about how I work and my therapeutic approach.
It is a useful space to ask any questions that you may have.
If you decide that you would like to work with me, I will send you my standard registration documents, this includes our Counselling Contract and Client Details form.
If you are unsure, have further questions after the call or would like some time this is also fine, I am here if you need me.
If I feel that I am unable to help you then I will do my best to recommend alternative help.
-
Our first session usually focuses on getting to know each other and what is most pressing for you in the moment. We will look at what has brought you to counselling and what you aim to gain from our work together.
We will build our relationship throughout the following sessions and work at a pace that suits you, reflecting, exploring and generally working through obstacles and learned patterns that may be holding you back. I will support you for as long as you need, ultimately working to help you reach your full potential and achieve your aims, getting you to where you would like to be.
I offer regular session reviews; this can be useful in monitoring our work and effectiveness together.
-
Sessions usually last for 1 hour, however, longer sessions can be arranged if required.
My standard fee is £65.00 per hour for online and face to face sessions.
My Armed Forces concession rate for serving personnel and veterans is £55.00 per hour.
-
I usually work Monday through Friday, but I may respond to communications outside of these days.
I offer sessions in the morning, afternoon and evening.

Some clients seek short term therapy and others for much longer periods. I am happy to remain flexible to ensure that your therapeutic needs are met and it may be that from the outset you are unsure as to what level of support you may need. We can assess as we go, new awareness may mean a shift in the work and we can regularly review progress and plan how we wish to move forwards.
Each client has a different therapeutic need, I therefore offer open-ended and time-limited therapy.
Open-ended Therapy
Open-ended therapy continues for as long as you need. For example, this form of therapy is ideal for long-standing issues.
Time-limited Therapy
Time-limited therapy focuses on a specific issue or concern within a defined timeframe or a set number of sessions.
-
Yes, of course! I will work with you to best meet your needs and we will continually assess this as we work together.

Usually, clients see me on a weekly basis at the same time and on the same day but I also offer fortnightly and monthly sessions to meet your individual needs.
I understand that therapy can often be an investment not only in yourself but financially, so I am happy to work with you on a basis that meets your needs.
-
Yes, confidentiality is vital in providing ethical therapy.
As part of my BACP membership I have regular supervision, however, your identity will be protected throughout and I do not refer to clients by their real names.
There are exceptions to confidentiality re ethical boundaries around safeguarding. These are explained and agreed between us as part of our contracting.
I use Microsoft Teams for online sessions which is a secure platform. My workspace is private and free from interruptions.
Face to face sessions are held in a soundproof therapy room at The Harlow, Harrogate. (Building access is also via it’s own private entrance)

It can be helpful to dedicate a final session to bring our work to a close. This session provides a useful space for reflection, including reinforcing progress and empowering you for the future.
I ask for a minimum of 48 hours’ notice of termination of our work together as set out in our Counselling Contract.
Either during or following your final session I will ask you to complete a feedback form - the completion of this is entirely optional.
