Counselling in Knaresborough and online
Welcome to Tracy Ward Counselling, I am a BACP registered, qualified humanistic counsellor and psychotherapist, offering a warm and supportive space where you can explore the challenges you may be facing.
Reaching out for support can feel like a big step, and for many people it is the first step towards creating the change they would like to see in their lives. I work alongside you at a pace that feels comfortable, supporting you throughout your therapeutic journey for as long as you need. My approach is tailored to you, ensuring that the counselling you receive reflects your individual needs and experiences. I offer a compassionate, empathic and curious presence to help foster understanding, self-awareness and empowerment.
Together we can create a space to pause, reflect and explore your thoughts and feelings in a safe environment. Through this process, you may gain greater insight into yourself and what supports your wellbeing. We can also identify practical coping strategies that help you move forward with greater confidence and balance.
The therapy space I offer:
- Helps you to understand your thoughts and feelings better
- Encourages self-acceptance and self-awareness
- Builds confidence and self-esteem
- Provides a safe, non-judgemental environment to talk
- Uses empathy and unconditional positive regard to support you
- Encourages personal growth and supports you in reaching your full potential
- Helps you to make your own choices
If you would like to learn more, please feel free to get in touch. I offer a free 15-minute, no-obligation phone call where we can briefly discuss what has brought you to counselling, how I may be able to support you, and answer any questions you may have.
How I Work
My work is primarily grounded in the person-centred approach, which stems from humanistic psychology. This approach is based on the belief that everyone has the capacity for growth, self-understanding and positive change when given the right supportive environment. I value the gentle yet powerful nature of this way of working, helping clients feel more empowered and develop a greater sense of agency in their lives.
I offer a warm, non-judgemental space where your needs, values and experiences are prioritised. Working collaboratively, we can build a trusting and supportive therapeutic relationship that helps you navigate the challenges you are facing. Together we can explore your lived experiences, thoughts, emotions and aspirations with curiosity and care.
Through this process, I can support you in gaining deeper insight into root causes, developing helpful coping strategies, increasing self-awareness and finding healthier ways to move forward.
I offer talking therapy and, where it feels helpful and if right for you, may gently incorporate other approaches into our work together. These may include somatic awareness (exploring the connection between mind and body), grounding techniques and mindfulness.
Wherever you are in life right now, you are welcome to come exactly as you are.
Our work will always be centred around you — your experiences, your pace and your journey. Guided by the principles of person-centred therapy, I aim to offer:
• Unconditional positive regard – acceptance and support without judgement.
• Empathy and understanding – a genuine effort to see the world from your perspective.
• Congruence – being open, authentic and present within the therapeutic relationship.
By creating a safe and supportive environment, therapy can become a space for self-discovery, growth and meaningful change.

Our First Session
Beginning counselling or psychotherapy can be a powerful and transformative step. It offers a space for self-discovery, emotional healing and personal growth.
Our first session is an opportunity to begin building our therapeutic relationship. Together we will create a safe, supportive and comfortable space where you can start to share what has brought you to counselling. We may explore the challenges you are currently facing, the key issues you would like support with, and any background information or personal history that you feel is important to share.
During this initial meeting we will also talk about your expectations of counselling and how I may be able to support you. We can explore your goals for therapy, what you hope to gain from the process, and the changes you would like to see in your life.
My aim is to provide a supportive and non-judgemental space where you can explore your inner world at a pace that feels right for you. Through this process, you can develop greater self-awareness and strengthen your mental and emotional wellbeing.
I offer therapy for as long as you feel it is helpful, and I tailor my approach to meet your individual needs. We will work collaboratively throughout the process to ensure that the support you receive is meaningful and beneficial for you.
